World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) a non political International Body of renowned Punjabis was formally launched by Shri I K Gujral, Former Prime Minister of India on 10th January, 1998 at a function held at his residence. The idea of WPO was conceived by its  International President Shri Vikramjit Singh Sahney in association with renowned industrialist Sr. Raunaq Singh, Sr. Bhupinder Singh Anand, Shri Raj Kishan Khanna, Sr. Bhupinder Singh Chadha, Sr. Santokh Singh Chawla and Sr. Amrit Singh Thapar. The idea was to foster social, economic and cultural links among Punjabis spread over more than one hundred countries of the world irrespective of caste, creed and religion. WPO was formed with whole hearted support of its patrons.   At the launch Shri Gujral said the organisation should channelise recourses of the rich Punjabis all over the world for welfare of the poorer sections and lauded the idea of setting up this vibrant association. Shri Tejendra Khanna (Lt. Governor, Delhi) said that he is proud to be associated with the organisation and Punjabis have done well and served the nation during both peace and war.
