After 50 years one could not
only visit his birth place but also could do pilgrimage to
the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was
a God-gift to me and my wife. It was, indeed, a pleasure
to receive an invitation from a most energetic young
entrepreneur, Sardar Vikramjit Singh Sahney, to join a
group of Punjabis on a short visit to Pakistan. When we
reached New Delhi Station, we were amazed to see a battery
of camera men surrounding a decorated coach which was
occupied by a group of 60 persons. It was a further
delight to se our friend, world known journalist, Mr.
Kuldip Nayar, entering the coach carrying flower bouquets.
He was named the Leader of the delegation by the World
Punjabi Organisation.
We occupied the last seats and
had full time to discuss all the current topics. On the
way, we tasted the well roasted chicken and other snacks
as part of customary Punjabi hospitality. After reaching
Amritsar, we had a trip to The Golden Temple and back to
the university where Sardar H.S. Soch, Vice Chancellor,
Guru Nanak Dev University, hosted lunch. Sardar Dalbir
Singh, the social ambassador of Amritsar, was in his best,
as usual, to organise a Press Meet and special reception
at the Attari Border.
The 15 minutes' train journey of
crossing between the two countries was full of experience.
It took hours and we could reach Wagah Railway station at
the time of sun set. There in chartered bus, we reached
Lahore for a sumptuous dinner and a heart warming
reception.
We reached Islamabad almost
after mid night by travelling on newly built 325 K.M. long
motorway, a wonder built at the initiative of Janab Nawaz
Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan. Next day, we drove to
Punja Sahib and were blessed by Sat Guru to have a dip in
the holy tank and have "Darshan" of Punja Sahib of Guru
Nanak Dev Ji inscribed in stone where water is gushing
out. It was a memorable day for all of us, since most of
us come from that area only.
